The Army of Survivors Third Anniversary Survivor Speak Out

In honor of our Third Anniversary, The Army of Survivors will host a virtual Survivor Speak Out on Tuesday, August 24, from 5-7 p.m. EST. Survivor Speak Out events provide the chance for survivors* of sexual assault to share their stories in a safe and supportive environment.

Here’s what past attendees are saying about the event:

For those who have said “I’m taking my secret to my grave,” the Survivor Speak Out is exceedingly helpful in letting you know you are not alone. I was privileged to share my story and it was a cathartic release. I encourage all survivors to attend the next Survivor Speak Out. – David Pietrasanta

Survivor Speak Outs offer victims of sexual assault the rare opportunity to speak and share exactly what happened to them as they experienced it, in their own words, on their own terms, and receive unwavering support and zero judgment, questioning, minimizing or doubt from the fellow survivors and allies who are listening. In a world where our word isn’t evidence enough of the truth and validity of our experiences with violence, neither as proof or call for justice, I cannot emphasize enough the value of having a safe space to speak, to be heard, to be affirmed and validated. For many, a Survivor Speak Out is the first and only opportunity they have to speak their truth and begin a lifetime of healing. Thank you for making these spaces possible! – Christina Marie Castro

Allies are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

*Note: Those who don’t identify with the term “survivor” but have a personal experience of sexual assault are also welcome to share. We honor and recognize that some people prefer to use “victim'”or another word of personal choice when identifying as someone who has experienced sexual assault. For the purpose of this event, we will use the term “survivor.”
