ABUSE IN SPORTS RESOURCES

The culture of sports has unique elements that make it different than any other environment, especially at the elite level. Because of these differences, it’s important to understand the distinct dynamics that allow for abuse to Occur. By educating ourselves, we can work toward making sports a safe place for all athletes.

Abuse in youth sports can take several forms, but all involve a power imbalance. Learn to recognize the signs.

Grooming is an intentional play by the predator to normalize appropriate behavior as being acceptable

Trauma-informed environment

We should strive to create a trauma-informed environment so athletes who have experienced trauma can thrive.

Reporting abuse

You do not have to investigate or be certain that abuse has occurred to report; you only have to suspect its occurrence.
