Module 5: Dismantling Myths About Survivors

MODULE 5: DISMANTLING MYTHS ABOUT SURVIVORS

Welcome to Module 5

Many beliefs about survivors, especially those related to sexual violence, are based in myths. Sometimes these are called “rape myths.” We want you to leave with the ability to rebut these myths to better advocate for survivors.

Why this matters: Myths are powerful and usually wrong. As a trauma-informed coach, participants have a responsibility to challenge these myths when they encounter them. Myths prevent survivors from reporting abuse, getting the help they need to heal, and empowers abusers to continue. Dispelling survivor myths is an active and important part of creating a compassionate culture.

What to Expect

  • Demonstrate ability to identify grooming tactics and red flags.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of survivorship by dismantling myths about abuse and survivors.
